Why does the Testimony exist?
The Testimony applies biblical truth to the situations and questions of later generations, including topics that were not addressed in the seventeenth century. Its chapters follow the Westminster Confession, making it possible to read the two together.
How does it relate to the Confession?
The RPCNA Constitution gives the Confession, Testimony, and Larger and Shorter Catechisms equal authority in the church. Where noted, earlier documents are interpreted by the later ones. These standards are subordinate to Scripture. The Testimony includes positive teaching, applications, and explicit rejections; in some places it identifies statements in the Confession that the church rejects.
