# EP004: The Outlaw Philosopher and Demoniacs: The Hate They Sent Me After the AZ Supreme Court

"Is that principle non-existent in Arizona?" — the question from the Chief Justice that ASU's lawyer could not answer.
In this episode of The Outlaw Philosopher, Dr. Owen Anderson takes you inside the Arizona Supreme Court, where his case was finally heard on September 1, 2026. He walks through the actual oral arguments — his attorney John Riches of the Goldwater Institute, and ASU's counsel from Perkins Coie — and translates the legalese into plain English.
At the center of it is a principle older than the United States itself: ubi jus ibi remedium — where there is a right, there is a remedy. Justice Bolick invoked it by name, citing Chief Justice John Marshall. Chief Justice Timmer pressed it again. ASU's attorney had no answer: he admitted he'd forgotten a justice's question, conceded he knew of no case law supporting his position, and closed the loop on a circular argument. Owen breaks down why it fails — and what ASU's proposed "remedy" actually amounts to: filing a report asking the guilty party to turn itself in.
Then the episode turns darker. After the hearing, NPR affiliate KJZZ ran a straightforward news story — and the comment section filled with body-shaming, racial insults, religious mockery, and gender attacks, some from ASU professors posting under their own names. From people who champion DEI. So Owen asks the question this episode is named for: is this ordinary human anger, or is something else at work? Drawing on Robert George's idea of identity-forming beliefs, and distinguishing demonic possession from demonic affliction, he and co-host Jorge Gil examine what that hatred reveals — and why he considers the comment thread the most useful data set he's gathered yet.
The one line for the whole episode: this was never about whether Owen Anderson was personally offended. It's about whether state institutions are above the law — and who gets to enforce it when they break it.
